Back streets and mills of 1950s Bolton

From engravings and etchings and industrial Bolton

Engraving by Françoise Taylor, early 1950s
Actual size: 304mm high x 252mm wide

After moving from Oxford to Bolton in the late 1940s Françoise Taylor lived in Barrow Bridge, from where she regularly walked into Bolton to sketch. This picture is assembled from a collection of the back streets she walked through and the mills she saw and includes Bolton Parish Church on the skyline. Much of this still exists but the mills are no longer used as mills and the back streets are no longer filled with children playing.
