André Modeste Grétry (1741-1813) was a music composer from Liège, known for his French-style 'opéras comiques'. A few years after his death Grétry's heart was moved from France to his birthplace in Belgium where it remains to this day, while the rest of his body is buried in Paris. A bronze statue of him was erected in Liège in 1842.
